YOUGH SCHOOL DISTRICT - KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION PACKETS FOR THE 2012/2013 school year will be available from January 18th, until February 3rd, 2012. You can pick up a packet at the school your child will attend, take it home, fill it out, and return it to the school by February 3rd, 2012. When the paperwork is turned in, an appointment time will be established to bring your child to the elementary school they will be attending for a screening. If you have any questions, please call the office of any of our elementary schools and speak to the secretary.

Welcome to the West Newton Elementary School!
The West Newton Elementary School is located in West Newton. Good access to the school is available and parking spaces are provided. A play area serves as the recreational facility. The structure is a one-story building built in 1966 with various updates since. The school enrolls about 230 K through 4 students served by over 37 staff members.
The instructional program is progressive in nature, with an extensive computer technology component in the curriculum for all grades. Art, music, library, computer, and physical education services are furnished by special personnel. A reading and math program provides specialized help through Title I funds to qualifying students. Libraries and health rooms are located in each building with nursing services provided. The services of a guidance counselor are available. The staff of West Newton Elementary School is committed to the educational and social well being of each student. West Newton Elementary is a great place to “learn like a champion.
A reminder for parents and visitors:
Upon entering the building you must report directly to the office and sign in.
No one is permitted into any other areas of the building without signing in, and obtaining permission and wearing a visitor's badge. Students who are late must be signed in by the adult who brought them to school.
Attention Parents: Beginning with the 2011-2012 school year, students in all grades (K - thru Grade 12) will need a second varicella (chicken pox) immunization unless they have had the disease.

PM Arrival 1:45 to Regular Dismissal
Field Trip Chaperone Information
In order to chaperone on field trips, parents/guardians are required to have criminal and child abuse clearances. Forms can be obtained in the school office any time. FBI/Fingerprinting clearances are not required for day trips. (Only overnight field trips require FBI/Fingerprinting clearances.) If you are considering being a chaperone, please do not wait until the last minute. Once the forms are sent into the state, it may take up to eight weeks for them to be returned.
Perfect Attendance
During the school year there are various awards and prizes for perfect attendance. The entities that set the criteria for these awards define perfect attendance as missing no educational time during the school year. This means students with tardies, early dismissals, approved family vacations, etc. will not be eligible for these prizes. If there are any questions please feel free to contact the principal.
Student Drop Off and Pick Up
Parents are reminded to drop and pick their children up at the side doors of each building. No cars are to be in the bussing lanes during student arrival and departure. Any student who is late must have a parent sign them into the office.
HOMEWORK REQUESTS
Please call in homework requests for your student no later than 9:30 AM. Homework can be picked up after 3:00 PM.
